Pro Bono MSP Selection Project for Wheels of Wellness

When technology runs smoothly, organisations can stay focused on delivering impact where it matters most. That’s why Dog and Bone is proud to support Wheels of Wellness —a not-for-profit organisation delivering vital healthcare and wellbeing services to people experiencing homelessness—on a pro bono engagement to help them select a new IT Managed Service Provider (MSP). By strengthening their digital infrastructure, this project will enable Wheels of Wellness to continue providing life-changing care to those doing it tough.

About Wheels of Wellness

Wheels of Wellness is a not-for-profit delivering mobile primary and allied health services to vulnerable communities in and around Cairns (North Queensland), including people experiencing homelessness. Their experienced team provides a broad range of services—from physical and mental health assessments to counselling and training—improving access to care for those who need it most.

About the Impact Program

This project was born from Wheels of Wellness’s participation in one of our Impact Rounds, part of Dog and Bone’s Impact Program, which focused on IT Managed Service Provider (MSP) Assessments. During the round, we reviewed Wheels of Wellness’s existing MSP contract and identified opportunities for improvement. Following this initial assessment, Wheels of Wellness was invited to take part in a dedicated pro bono project to help determine the best-fit MSP.

Why MSPs Matter

For not-for-profits like Wheels of Wellness, a reliable, flexible, and strategic managed service provider is essential. As IT systems become more complex and critical to service delivery, the role of an MSP evolves beyond break-fix support. A best-fit MSP in this scenario acts as a strategic partner in technology—enhancing digital maturity, improving security, and enabling the organisation to focus on their core mission.

The demand for managed services is rising across Australia, especially among NFPs that need to stretch their resources further. The right MSP can help streamline operations, reduce risk, and ensure that IT services are scalable and aligned to organisational goals.

Our Approach

With Wheels of Wellness’s current MSP contract due to expire later this year, this engagement comes at the perfect time. Our project will help Wheels of Wellness to assess and secure an IT services provider that is best suited to their long-term needs.

Dog and Bone’s MSP selection process includes:

  • Scoping and Requirements Gathering: Consultation with key Wheels of Wellness stakeholders to understand future IT support needs.

  • Market Engagement: Development of request for quotation (RFQ) documentation, including templates and support materials for vendor engagement.

  • Vendor Selection: Assistance in identifying a shortlist of suitable providers, evaluating responses using a tailored evaluation matrix, and advising on final selection.

  • Contracting and Onboarding: Support throughout negotiations and transition if required to a new MSP.

Impact Through Partnership

This engagement is part of Dog and Bone’s commitment to making a positive impact to the NFP sector. Since Dog and Bone's inception, we've contributed over $26.9 million in value to the not-for-profit sector through cost-reduction initiatives, technology advice, and strategic projects. We know that many NFPs lack the resources to access quality technology advice, and we’re committed to changing that.

Helping great people do great work - we're proud to help strengthen the IT foundations of Wheels of Wellness so they can keep delivering essential care to those who need them most.
